The Nishie family took up residence here in the closing years of the Muromachi Era and was powerful in the region throughout the Warming States Period. According to geneaology, a warrior from the north,Miurashi, one of the Kanto Heishi family, was the originator of this bloodline. Following the Onin War and into the Warring States Period, the first generation Nishie Okurakiyonari, lived in Bicchu Sakamoto and became a provincial samurai engaged in protecting the mountain castle was famed for his military exploits in the Tensho Era wars and was given two hundred hectares of labd by Terumoto Mori,Following this, samurai in vassalage when Mori was defeated in the Sekigahara conflict gave up being warriors and returned to the land to take up faming again.

The Nishie family is also said to be an example of this. In 1705,the family played a central role in the autonomous administration of the region which had become an imperial fief under shougunate control as village leaders. For this reason, the residence was constructed, equipped with a summary court,storehouses,post-house stables and calling-raphy study area and the residence became the offices of the prefectural govemment.
